Solar Eclipse!!

Did you know there was a solar eclipse last night?  Grandpa Kit was looking forward to it all week and invited us along to enjoy the momentous occasion.
Matthew was pretty stoked.

We walked up the bluff to get a better view.  Curt and dad had the idea to get the welding helmet for optimal viewing safety, so Curt had to jog back down the road to hurry and get it before we missed out!

At first I could not see a thing, even with my sunglasses on.  It was just too bright.  And then these clouds streamed in front of it and it was spectacular!
I wish the camera did it better justice but it was spectacular!!  It looks like a crescent moon but that is the moon in front of the sun.
Even Hailey liked having her turn looking through the helmet
Then it took the brilliant ALMOST 5 yr old to think up stacking our sunglasses.  That made it look pretty cool.

Curt got tired of walking so Hailey helped him out

After a lot of eclipse viewing Matthew led us on a long walk.
Grandma Janet found some bird tracks.  Hailey thought that was amazing!

We had a great time!  Thanks for inviting us Grandma and Grandpa.  The next solar eclipse won't come along for another 20 something odd years, so I'm so glad we got to witness this!

that is EXACTLY how we saw the eclipse! having a welding hood or 2 laying around really comes in handy for those scientific discovery moments huh! i am glad that matthew thought of stacking the sunglasses with his overdeveloped brain. they say that even with sunglasses on, you should not EVER look directly at the sun. he's nobody's dummy! haha i am glad you got his "stoked" pose. LOVE IT! i love hailey's boots next to the bird tracks. i would like to know what was going on in her head right then.
